Our Library: A Great Storytime & Great Staff

We haven't been to story time at the library for quite a while. Evanna was totally into it today. The librarian read Tip Tip Dig Dig by Emma Garcia. It starts out, "Look at this mess. What can we do with it?" Evanna raised her hand, finger pointing up as if to say I have an idea and said, "Clean it!"

Later with the flannel board, she crawled front and center and was fully engaged. For the next activity, she grabbed the doll and held it like all the moms were holding their toddlers and babies

For the parachute, which is hit or miss with her, I put her in her wheelchair to raise her higher because she preferred to help lift and lower the chute. She did try to venture under it but got nervous every time it came back down.

After story time, she played in the children's area with Josh and Maddie while I went hunting for books for school and picture books for Evanna.

I had a nice conversation with the head librarian who previously asked for my input on how to make the circulation desks more accessible and had featured Evanna's photo on the fundraising flier. Today, she told me that were also putting in a family restroom as part of their future remodel with the goal of giving people who have a caregiver of the opposite gender a more comfortable restroom option. I suggested changing stations with a shelf or counter nearby for supplies (their baby changing station is one of the better ones we've used) and how great it would be if they could squeeze in a full size bench of some sort for disabled teens and adults that need to lie down for cathing. She wants me to email her pictures that I have of the children's hospital family bathroom and a good baby changing station.

While I miss the collection of our old library, I love the staff at this library. They really try to get to know their regulars and meet the needs of the community.
