With Evanna doing so much better with sitting on a bench and then pulling herself to a stand, high kneeling, and other physical tasks, I pushed to get her in a walker again. So we made plans to arrive at PT without her AFOs for kneeling (which is better without them) and then putting in her KAFOs for standing, starting this week.
It was her second time using a walker, and she was not pleased. She's against anything that's hard.
The first thing we did was get her in one that has pelvic support. She really needs the extra support at this point, and we don't know if she'll be able to strengthen the muscles needed to go without it. Evanna has no clue how to shift her weight to take steps, so the therapist moved her legs for two steps. Then she stood and played with a toy on a bench. Finally, we played with kicking a ball. She needed a lot of help, especially with the weight shift that allows you to lift and move the other leg. She was upset several times but also really happy when she managed to kick the ball.
She needed so much help, and she got frustrated with it being "hard," but I'm happy we are working on getting her upright, on getting her used to standing, showing her new body movements. I sincerely believe she'll master walking with a walker at some point.
